Overview
An Article 4 Direction is a planning tool to restrict permitted development rights where there is a need for added control. It means that certain types of development, which would normally not require planning permission, now need it.
Its purpose is to protect the local amenity, character or well-being of an area.
In Trafford these Article 4 Directions have been introduced to control:
- Development affecting areas/buildings of historic interest
- Establishment of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs)
