Article 4 Direction: Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO)

There is an Article 4 Direction in place across Trafford that relates to Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs). Its purpose is to remove permitted development rights for the change of use of residential properties to small HMOs.

The Direction is used to allow us to properly consider the impacts of converting standard houses into houses in multiple occupation, including on the character and amenity of the area.

It was introduced in light of the establishment of the University Academy 92 (UA92) and the potential rise in the number of HMOs as student accommodation.
