The Development Plan is the legal framework for deciding planning applications in Trafford. It is made up of several documents prepared by Trafford Council and other planning bodies.
Together, these documents set out what kind of development is allowed, where it can happen, and what policies must be followed. They help guide decisions on housing, jobs, infrastructure, and the environment.
The Development Plan includes:
- Places for Everyone (2024)
- Trafford Core Strategy (2012)
- Civic Quarter Area Action Plan (2023)
- Saved Unitary Development Plan (UDP)
- Neighbourhood Plans
- Joint Waste and Minerals Plans
- Composite Policies Map
When making a planning decision, we must assess proposals against all relevant documents in the Development Plan.
These documents work alongside national planning policy and supporting guidance.
