Christmas tree recycling

Part of: Bin collections over Christmas and New Year

Contents

Real Christmas trees can be recycled after you have finished using them. They are turned into compost, along with your food and garden waste.

Between Monday 5 January and Friday 16 January, you can recycle your real Christmas tree in your green bin without a garden waste permit.

After this date, your tree will only be collected if a valid garden waste permit is displayed on the bin.

We will not collect trees left beside your green bin.

Put your real tree in your green bin

Remove all decorations, the base, or any support blocks. You can put the base and support blocks in your grey bin.

Chop your tree into small pieces and place it into your green bin. Make sure the lid of your bin closes.

Check the Christmas bin collection calendar to see when your tree will be collected.

You can donate your real tree to charity through Just Helping, a supporter of St. Ann’s Hospice and Francis House.

Take your tree to your local recycling centre

You can take your real Christmas tree to a recycling centre. If you have a real tree you can recycle it in the garden waste area.

If you have an artificial tree, you can dispose of it in the centre's general waste area.

Take your real tree to a collection point

If you can't place your tree in your green bin, you can take it to a collection point. Collection points are open from Thursday 1 January to Friday 16 January.

Drop your real tree at the following locations:

  • Cross Lane Park Car Park – Moss Lane
  • Flixton Park Car Park – Flixton Road
  • Hullard Park Yard – Northumberland Road
  • Longford Park Car Park – Rye Bank Road

Each site will have a marked area. Ensure you have removed all the decorations, base, or support blocks before taking your tree to a collection point.
