Garden waste collection terms and conditions 2025/26

Please read these terms and conditions before signing up for our garden waste collection service. If you are subscribing for the new service period (1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027), read our updated terms and conditions.

Subscription

  • The service year is 1 June 2025 to 31 May 2026. If you subscribe during the year, you will need to pay the full charge. The best value option is to subscribe at the start of the service period.
  • If you want to continue the service after 31 May 2026, it is your responsibility to renew your subscription.
  • You can subscribe for multiple garden waste bins, but a permit sticker is required for each bin.

Permit stickers

  • The permit sticker must be placed on the back of the green bin underneath the handles where it can easily be seen.
  • It may take up to 14 days to receive your permit sticker. You should wait until you receive your permit sticker before placing garden waste out for collection in your green bin.

Charges and payments

  • The subscription charge is £50 per bin, for the service year starting 1 June 2025.
  • The charge is the same for 240 litre and 140 litre bins.
  • If there is no green bin at your property, you will need to order one to participate in the service. A delivery and administration charge will apply.
  • Refunds will only be given for cancellations within 14 days of payment being made.

Missed bins

  • We do not issue a refund for missed collections. If your bin was not out by the scheduled time (6.30am) on collection day, you may have missed the collection.
  • If your missed collection is genuinely our fault, we will always return and empty your bin as soon as possible.
  • Collections may be missed due to circumstances beyond our control, like severe weather conditions or road blockages preventing vehicle access. You can check our bin disruptions page to see if your street has been affected. If your street is not listed, report it within two working days. If you wait longer than two working days to report a missed collection will not return, and you should present the bin on the next collection day.
  • We may refuse a collection if your bin contains the wrong items or is too heavy to empty. In this case, remove any wrong items and wait until your next scheduled collection day.

More information

  • You will keep your current green food and garden waste bins.
  • We are unable to collect any garden waste that is not presented inside a permitted green bin.
  • Green bin collections will be suspended for one week over the Christmas period.
  • When you move house, leave all bins at your old property. All bins remain the property of Trafford Borough Council.

Our rights

  • We have the right to cancel any contract where the garden waste is produced as a result of a commercial operation and not a domestic one, with no refund.
  • We reserve the right to amend the Garden Waste Collection service terms and conditions where reasonably required to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of the service.
