About our allotments

There are 34 sites throughout Trafford with over 1500 individual plots in full-time use.

Some sites have community plots or groups that welcome new volunteers. This is a good way to learn how to manage an allotment and grow your own food, especially if you have not had one before.

Allotment Strategy launched

The allotment strategy is now available. It sets out how Trafford Council will manage and improve allotments over the next 5 years, focusing on meeting demand and preparing for future needs.

Selling allotment sites

We want to reassure our residents that Trafford Council has no plans to sell any allotment sites in our community.

Allotments are a valued and protected community resource, with strict legal safeguards in place to protect them. Read more about these safeguards on GOV.UK.

Allotment land can only be disposed of under strict legal conditions, such as low demand or a suitable replacement provision. Statutory allotments also cannot be sold or developed without going through a rigorous legal process.

A key action in the allotment strategy is to increase provision. We will use planning policy to encourage new developments to include allotments.
