Scheme proposals
The proposals focus on creating a safer, clearer and more accessible junction layout. They aim to:
-
improve safety
-
support active travel
-
support everyday travel needs
-
cater to the high numbers of people using the area on event days
Upgraded junction layout
A redesigned junction that when crossing clearly separates:
-
pedestrians
-
cyclists and
-
motor traffic
This will help reduce conflict and improve safety.
Wider footways
Pavements widened in key locations, including outside the UA92 campus. This will give more space for pedestrians and people using mobility aids.
One-way operation on Brian Statham Way
In-line with the Civic Quarter Area Action Plan, Brian Statham Way would become one way, exit only, towards the junction. This would reduce through traffic and support safer walking and cycling.
Improved cycling facilities
New and improved cycle lanes to help people cycle safely through the area while keeping access for other users.
Event day management
Measures to manage traffic during major events. This may include retractable bollards to
-
control vehicle access
-
allow pedestrian-only use when needed
