Highway infrastructure assets are the most valuable publicly owned asset managed by us. They provide a universal service to residents and are central to helping businesses grow and prosper.
Asset management is widely accepted the best means to deliver a more efficient and effective approach to the management of highway infrastructure assets, through longer term planning and timely maintenance interventions.
It supports us in making the case for funding to improve the highway network. It also assists with:
- communication around highway infrastructure
- facilitating a greater understanding of the contribution highway infrastructure assets make to economic growth and the needs of local communities.
The Highway Infrastructure Asset Management Plan (HIAMP) document outlines our policy, strategy and plans for highway infrastructure management and maintenance.
Following a mid-term review to ensure we were continuing to align with recognised best practice, an updated plan was approved in July 2023.
Since the initial publication of the HIAMP in 2017, the Resilient Network on page 44 has been reviewed and an updated map produced.
HIAMP communication
Appendix A of the (HIAMP) contains a communication strategy which has to raise awareness and understanding of the our highways asset management objectives.
It describes how we manage our assets and how our approach is actively communicated through engagement with relevant stakeholders. Alternatively, you can read our asset management plan leaflet.
To see this year’s resurfacing plan, you can visit our highway improvement plan webpage.
