A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is a legally enforceable restriction enabling the regulation or restriction of the movement of traffic. Examples include:
- Waiting and parking restrictions (single and double yellow lines, red routes and red route clearways)
- No right or left turns
- Weight restrictions
- Speed limits
- Resident parking schemes
- Loading bays
- Red Routes and Red Route Clearways
We must undertake a statutory consultation process before any TRO can be implemented. This includes consultation with statutory bodies, a public advertisement, and consideration of any objections received.
A final Notice will be published to announce the making of the Legal Order.
Why we use TROs
TROs can benefit our residents and businesses in many ways, for example:
- Helping the flow of traffic
- Improving road safety
- Preventing damage to the highway
Temporary TRO (TTRO)
Occasionally, roads or footways in Trafford will need to be closed due to works on or near the highway, or for special events (such as parades or sporting events).
Such road closures will need a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO). You can find out more about TTROs, including how to apply for one.
