Paid carers and home care workers
Sometimes, daily tasks can become difficult to manage on your own. Getting help at home can help you stay independent, safe, and comfortable.
A paid carer or home care worker can help you with everyday tasks, such as:
- Washing, bathing, or showering
- Getting dressed
- Preparing and cooking meals
- Reminding you to take medication
- Helping you get out of bed or move safely around your home
- Cleaning, laundry, and shopping
- Supporting you to go out, attend appointments, or take part in community activities
How to get help at home
You can arrange support through Trafford Adult Social Care, or arrange care privately.
Through Trafford Adult Social Care
You can request a needs assessment online (under 'request support') or by calling the team at 0161 912 5199 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm) or 0161 912 2020 out of hours.
We will look at what support you need and if you are eligible for council-funded care.
Arrange care privately
You can choose to pay for home care directly with a care agency. Look for services approved by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) or search the Trafford Directory.
The British Red Cross also offers a home care support service in Greater Manchester. For more information, email healthandcarenorthiomadmin@redcross.org.uk or call 0148 249 9830.
Paying for support at home
Some people pay for their own home care.
If you are eligible, Trafford Council may contribute to the cost of your support. After your assessment, we will explain what financial help you may be able to get. Find out more about paying for support.
