Telecare and pendant alarms
Telecare is equipment that can help you stay safe and independent at home.
It uses sensors and alarms linked to a telephone unit. If there’s a problem, the alarm goes straight to a 24-hour response centre.
Examples of telecare equipment include:
- Pendant alarms you wear around your neck or wrist
- Fall detectors
- Smoke, heat, or flood alarms
- Sensors to check if someone has got in or out of bed safely
How to get telecare
You can get telecare through the Council following an assessment, or arrange telecare privately.
Getting telecare through Trafford Council
Telecare can be provided either as a standalone service or alongside a care support plan, depending on the individual’s needs.
If you are in hospital, the discharge team may arrange telecare to help you return home safely. Installation will take place on the same day of discharge or the following day.
If you are at home, email adultsocialcare@trafford.gov.uk or call 0161 912 5199 for an assessment. If you are eligible, we will arrange the equipment through our external provider. Installation will take place within five days.
Your main contact will be our provider, L&Q, who will:
- Provide the equipment
- Handle maintenance and repairs
- Respond if you trigger an alarm
Costs
Telecare has set cost levels for the resident when arranged through the Council:
- Fully-funded
- Level 1: £6.61 per week
- Level 2: £7.87 per week
- Level 3: £11.34 per week
Arranging telecare privately
You can buy or rent telecare services and equipment directly from any supplier. This does not require a council assessment.
If you’re unsure what equipment is right for you, you can still speak to Adult Social Care for advice before arranging it privately.
You may want to arrange telecare privately through the Council's own provider, L&Q. Alternatively, you can search for telecare providers in the Trafford Directory.
The private provider will install and set up the equipment in your home. You will also receive bills directly from the provider, and they will act as your main point of contact.
Costs
Costs vary depending on the provider and the type of service.
