Financial crisis
A financial crisis is an unexpected event or sudden change in circumstances that creates a risk to your:
- health
- safety
- ability to remain in your home
When you apply the Community Hubs will always consider:
- your individual circumstances
- what other support may be available to you
Examples of a crisis
These are examples only as everyone’s financial crisis can look very different.
Unforeseen events
You have an unforeseen disaster, which results in significant damage to, or loss of your possessions or property. Where money has been lost or stolen, and living expenses are needed.
Breakage of an essential item, for example:
- a boiler
- medical equipment
- white goods.
If you are experiencing domestic abuse and need immediate help. For example moving into an unfurnished property and needing help with furniture and appliances.
Changes to income
When you have a short-term gap in regular income. For example, due to:
- redundancy
- loss of income due to needing to isolate for health reasons
- benefit delays or sanctions
- a significant change in working pattern
- a recent release from prison and awaiting alternative support
Unplanned spending or incurring increased expenses due to:
- an accident
- health emergency
- mental health crisis
