The national Food Hygiene Rating Scheme gives information about the hygiene standards at a food premises when they are inspected. 

Businesses are given a window sticker showing their rating, which they must display in a visible place at all customer entrances. They must also tell customers their rating if they are asked.

Right of appeal

The food business operator of the establishment has the right to appeal a rating if they feel the score is unjust. Appeals must be made within 21 days of receiving notification of the rating (including weekends and bank holidays).

To appeal, submit a completed appeal form by email to environmental.health@trafford.gov.uk.

The Council will let you know the outcome of your appeal within 21 days.

Right to reply

A right to reply allows food business operators to explain what follow-up actions have been taken to address the required improvements found during an inspection. It can also be used to explain mitigating circumstances at the time of the inspection.

It is not for making complaints or for criticising the scheme or the inspecting officer.

Comments will be reviewed by the inspecting officer and may be edited to remove offensive or abusive remarks.

To submit a 'right to apply,' send a completed 'right to reply' form to the food safety officer who did your inspection. Their details can be found on the written notification of your food hygiene rating.

Request a revisit

A business can apply to have its hygiene rating re-assessed, provided it has corrected any issues identified at the time of the initial inspection. 

Food hygiene revisits have a charge of £221. You must pay online before requesting a re-visit.
