Apply for an animal licence

Before a licence can be granted, we must be satisfied that:
- keeping the animal is not against the public interest (for safety, nuisance or other reasons)
- you are a suitable person to hold a licence
- the accommodation is secure, of suitable size and construction, and kept clean
- the animal will have adequate food, drink, bedding and exercise
- veterinary care, fire precautions and disease control are in place
- you hold suitable insurance
A licence is only valid for the person and premises named on it.

Before you can apply you will need to:
- pay the fee online on our eStore. View the latest fees and charges.
- make a note of the payment reference number to add to your application.

Licence renewal
Licences expire on 31 December each year. You must renew before this date to continue keeping the animal.

You will also be charged for inspections by an authorised veterinary surgeon or practitioner.
