Apply for a zoo licence

We can only grant a licence if:
- the zoo will not affect public health, safety, or law and order
- the zoo has suitable accommodation, staffing and management for animal welfare
- appropriate conservation measures will be in place
Notice of application
Before you apply you need to give us written notice about your intention to apply. This must be done at least two months before your application.
You will also need to:
- publish a notice in one local and one national newspaper
- display a copy of the notice at the proposed site
Notice requirements
The notice must include:
- the location of the zoo
- types and numbers of animals to be kept
- arrangements for accommodation, welfare and staff
- expected visitor numbers and access arrangements
- how conservation measures will be met
Make a payment
Before you can apply you will need to:
- pay the fee online on our eStore. View the latest fees and charges.
- make a note of the payment reference number to add to your application.
