Prove your vehicle is roadworthy and eligible

When you renew, you must show that your vehicle is safe, insured, and meets our licensing standards.

Our documentation guidance for licensing provides extra information on what we will or will not accept when applying for a licence.

You will need to provide:

  • a compliance test certificate (dated within the last 6 months) - Book an appointment on the KAR automotive website
  • an age test certificate (dated within 6 months). If your private hire vehicle is over 6 years old, or your hackney carriage is over 15 years old
  • your V5 log book (front page and page 1)
  • your insurance certificate and, if you are a fleet owner, your insurance schedule
  • an HPI check (full PDF, dated within 3 months)
  • a Basic DBS certificate (for each director if you are a company, or if you do not hold a Trafford driver licence) dated within 12 months

We will not renew licences for vehicles that have been written off in any category.
