Dog welfare and warden service

Part of: Animal health and welfare

If you are concerned about the abuse, neglect or welfare of a dog, contact the RSPCA online or call 0300 123 8960. The line is open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week.

Making a complaint about a dog

To report a problem with a dangerous dog, call the Greater Manchester Police on 101

To make a noise complaint about a barking dog, contact the Council online.

XL Bully ban

It's a criminal offence to own an XL Bully dog unless you have a Certificate of Exemption. New exemptions can only be authorised by a court order.

Read more about the ban on XL Bully dogs.

Report illegal breeding

If you have concerns about the illegal breeding of XL Bully breed types, report these to the animal welfare team by emailing animal.welfare@trafford.gov.uk.

Dog warden service

Dog wardens help reunite lost dogs with their owners, and prevent stray dogs from being a danger to traffic or a nuisance to people.

Our dog warden service is overseen by Salford City Council. Read more about the service on the Salford City Council website.

Report your lost dog

You can also report a stray, roaming or dangerous dog in Trafford.

Reclaiming your found dog

The council will always try to find the owners of any stray dogs before they are taken to nominated kennels. They share dogs that have been found by wardens on the Dogs in Salford Facebook page and via the Dogs in Salford X account.
