Noise from licensed premises

Part of: Noise pollution

The licensing of alcohol, certain types of entertainment, and late-night refreshment is the responsibility of the local authority and is governed by the Licensing Act 2003. For more information, read our licensing pages.

Noise from places with a premises license may disturb residents in Trafford, including loud levels of music and customers. Our team will investigate any related complaints.

What you can do

Any interested party (such as a local resident) can request a review of a premises licence. This can happen at any time if a problem arises at the premises related to one of the four licensing objectives:

  • the prevention of crime and disorder
  • public safety
  • the protection of children from harm
  • the prevention of public nuisance

Applications for a review must be in writing and use the official form. To get the forms and more information, email licensing@trafford.gov.uk.

To speed up the process, you can also report the noise to our team and submit a completed noise nuisance diary to track what's happening. Download our noise nuisance diary template.

What the Council can do

If issues related to the four licensing objectives arise after a review, we could make the following changes:

  •  additional conditions
  • changes in licensable activities
  • restriction on the premises operating hours
