The Renters’ Rights Act gives you more security in your rented home. 

Protection from eviction

Your landlord can no longer evict you without a valid reason. This means you are less likely to lose your home suddenly. You will also have more time to plan if you do need to move. 

Length of tenancies

Your tenancy no longer has a fixed end date. This means:

  • You can leave by giving notice at any time
  • You do not have to stay in a long contract

A landlord can still ask you to leave in some situations. They must have a legal reason and follow the correct legal process.

Disputes

You can speak up about problems in your home without worrying about being evicted for doing so. 

You are now safe to report issues such as:

  • Disrepair
  • Poor or unsafe living conditions
  • Damp and mould

The Renters’ Rights Act gives you more confidence to ask for help when something is wrong.
