Have your say on the proposed new HS2 project

Residents and businesses across Trafford are being offered the chance to have their say on the proposed new HS2 (High Speed Rail 2) project.
The project, which is a major national infrastructure project promoted by the Government, intends to create a high-speed rail link between London and major cities in the Midlands and north of England including Manchester.
Thousands of new jobs are due to be created and the project will cut journey times between Manchester and the capital and significantly increase capacity on existing routes. A new HS2 Bill outlining the scheme has just been announced. This includes a route into central Manchester with a planned station at Manchester Airport and a route heading north (known as the Golborne Link) which will cross the Ship Canal near Warburton.
Trafford Council is backing the scheme but does have worries about the impact the project may have on some residents and businesses in the borough.
A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:
“We support in principal the building of HS2 but we do have some concerns on the impact the route could potentially have on residents and businesses.
The Golborne Link in particular raises serious issues in terms of its effects on the landscape and the routing of construction traffic. The Council will make its views known at the appropriate time but is urging residents to let the Government know what they think about the proposals.”
If you want to give your views about the proposals then you must do this directly to HS2 Ltd and/or the Government via the appropriate methods and contact details, which you can find on their website. As a project involving a new Bill before parliament, the Council itself does not receive comments as part of this process.
