Work to clear tonnes of leaves from Trafford’s streets and footpaths is underway.
The annual winter leaf clearance programme, carried out by the One Trafford Partnership (OTP), started on Monday 13 October, 2025, and runs until the end of January next year.
The programme, carried out by the OTP, a collaboration between Trafford Council and Amey, will be delivered in two full sweeping cycles across all wards of the borough with four teams operating 16-tonne road sweepers, each supported by a leaf blower operative to clear footpaths.
The teams will be supported by three compact sweepers focusing on town centres and priority areas identified by supervisors. The smaller sweepers may also be diverted to cycle lanes or emergencies when required.
The schedule also included support for the Manchester Half Marathon (12 October 2025) and Remembrance Sunday (9 November 2025), including focused work around cenotaphs and memorial sites, where teams will be redirected to ensure key routes are cleared.
Route one covers Old Trafford, Longford, Gorse Hill and Cornbrook, Lostock and Barton, Stretford and Humphrey Park, Urmston, Davyhulme, Flixton, Bucklow St Martins, Timperley North and Timperley Central.
Route two covers Broadheath, Manor, Ashton Upon Mersey, Sale Central, Sale Moor, Brooklands, Altrincham, Bowdon, Hale, Hale Barns and Timperley South.
A spokesperson for the One Trafford Partnership said:
“Leaf dropping season takes place between October and January and is a very busy time for OTP staff. Leaves can be a major hazard on the paths and highways so it is important that they are cleared away for safety reasons.”
