Better bus stops provided around Sale and Altrincham in new scheme
A major corridor route through Sale West and north Altrincham is getting bus stop improvements to encourage more use of public transport and make boarding and alighting easier.

Trafford Council is working with Transport for Greater Manchester on the upgrades as part of wider improvements including remodelling road junctions to the benefit of all users including those on foot and on bicycles.
The first of eight bus stops in phase one of the programme, are on Firs Way, pictured below, and Manor Avenue, pictured above, in Sale.
Work by the One Trafford partnership between the Council and Amey began on Firs Way this spring, starting with the Chepstow Avenue Northbound and Southbound stops, followed by the Catterick Avenue Northbound and Southbound stops.
Improvements funded by TfGM – including level changes for easier boarding as well as new surfacing, kerbs, poles and shelters – continued on Manor Avenue and the phase is now complete. More work will follow and in total, around 40 bus stops will be improved.
The upgrades, part a wider programme across Greater Manchester, will reduce stepping distances, improve accessibility for wheelchair users and people with impairments, and enhance overall passenger comfort and safety.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Highways and Environmental Services said:
“We’re delighted to deliver this programme to improve stops without platforms for easy access, worn-out shelters with cracked kerbs and below-average surfacing.
“The bus stops are looking smarter and our aims are to encourage more people to use buses. We are supporting equality and inclusion in the area and helping to reduce car dependency, by delivering practical, environmental, and value for money benefits for the community.”
