Carla Godwin, who works closely with Trafford families facing hardship, will be taking on the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run Half Marathon this Sunday – raising money for Trafford-based charity Little Green Sock Project.
Carla, who works within Trafford Council’s Family Information Service, regularly helps connect parents and children with practical support during periods of crisis and financial hardship.
Carla said:
“I regularly use the Little Green Sock Project to support families during my Outreach Officer role with Trafford Council. Giving access to essential items can make a massive difference to a child’s wellbeing as well as a family’s ability to cope during difficult circumstances.
“I have seen the amazing work that the charity does and the positive impact it has on families’ lives.”
Little Green Sock Project, based in Trafford Park, provides essential items for children through referals from health and social care professionals. This includes clothing, toiletries, school essentials, baby equipment and more. The charity supports families experiencing a wide range of challenges, including poverty, domestic abuse, homelessness and the rising cost of living.
For many families, receiving practical essentials can mean a child having a safe place to sleep, a warm coat for school, a pram to attend appointments, or basic toiletries and clothing during periods of crisis.
Catherine D’Albertanson, Founder and CEO of Little Green Sock Project, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Carla for choosing to support Little Green Sock Project through the Great Manchester Run.
“Every day, professionals like Carla see the realities many families are facing. They also see how something as simple as a cot, school shoes or warm clothing can completely change a situation for a child or help families engage with wider support.
“Our partnership working with Trafford Council is hugely important to us, and we are proud to work alongside professionals across the borough who are supporting families with such compassion and dedication.”
George Devlin, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Babies, Children and Young People, said:
“Our staff often go the extra mile to give babies, children and young adults the best start. In this case, Carla is going an extra 13 miles to raise money for such an important cause.”
Demand for support from Little Green Sock Project has continued to rise significantly. The charity supported more than 1,800 bundles to children across Greater Manchester last year alone.
The AJ Bell Great Manchester Run takes place on Sunday 31 May, with thousands of runners taking part across the city.
