Free online workshop for businesses to ‘demystify’ apprenticeships

Trafford Council is inviting businesses in the borough to join an hour-long video call this Wednesday 1 July at 12pm to learn about apprenticeships.
The ‘Lunch and Learn’ session has been organised after local firms told the Council they were confused about recruitment options.
At a recent Business Breakfast, when surveyed 82% of attendees said they were struggling to find the right people to hire and 80% reported not feeling confident enough about apprenticeships to decide whether they could work for their organisation.
In response, the Council’s Inclusive Economy and Communities Team and partners have organised the free session to provide clear, practical guidance on apprenticeships and how they can work in practice.
Interested business owners and managers are invited to register online for 'Demystifying Apprenticeships: A Step by Step Guide for Trafford Businesses' on Wednesday 1 July from 12pm to 1pm.
The session is designed for Trafford businesses who are thinking about taking on an apprentice but are unsure where to start. It will start by answering the question:
“What do I need to do to take on an apprentice?”
It will provide step by step guidance on how apprenticeships work in practice, including how to access them, how funding works, what support is available to make recruitment easier, and how apprentices can progress within a business, including into higher and degree level training.
The workshop will be delivered by the Council with Trafford & Stockport College Group, The Growth Company and University Academy 92.
Businesses attending will also be able to register their interest for one to one follow up support to help them explore the topic further.
Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economy and Regeneration said:
“The idea of taking on apprentices may seem daunting and complex but we hope to make clear what the options are and what help is out there for businesses, to help them make informed decisions. We would recommend this session to anyone who is curious to find out more.”
