The Council’s Executive last night (15 June) approved a list of schemes to be funded by the Economic Development and Regeneration Flexible Grant (EDRG) 2026/27.

The grant, which totals £1,151,792 is provided through the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to support economic growth and regeneration locally in Trafford.

Trafford Council has applied for and been awarded this external funding which has been devised to focus on local economic growth, enhancing cultural activity and improving business productivity. It will support three of the Council's key priorities - a thriving economy and homes for all, healthy and independent lives for everyone and addressing the climate crisis.

Some of the projects to benefit from the funding include:

  • Trafford Shop Improvement Grant – the third year of this funding to support businesses to invest in their property: £140,000
  • Supporting the Community Festivals programme at Sale Waterside: £65,341
  • Town Centre Marketing Fund – allowing organisations in town centres to run seasonal and community events to help drive footfall into our town centres. This has been running for three years. Examples of events supported include The M41 Festival which celebrates all things food and drink in Urmston, ‘Stretfest’ where community groups and businesses showcase the best of Stretford and the Enchanted Halloween Trail, organised by Altrincham BID: £60,000
  • Funding to support the next stage in the process of developing Trafford Park BID (Business Improvement District) looking to secure additional investment and opportunities into our world-famous business location of Trafford Park.
  • Providing a Junior BMX Pump Track in Longford Park as part of the regeneration of the park: £100,000
  • Investing in our library service including our Local Studies service which plays a key role in showcasing Trafford’s economic and social history: £34,965.

Cllr Liz Patel, Trafford Council's Executive Member for Development and Regeneration, said:

"Trafford Council is committed to investing in our communities and this funding will help towards a number of key projects which will do just that.

"We are very proud to be helping deliver projects which will support business productivity, economic growth and cultural activity in our borough."
