Pending improvements for the busy through-route scooped the prize for ‘best proposed scheme’ at the 2025 Walk Ride Greater Manchester Awards that celebrate council, local volunteer and community efforts to progress active travel.

Work at Seymour Grove set to involve creating safer crossings, wider footways, new landscaping, and a continuous walking, wheeling, and cycling link, following public consultation.

The Council worked together on design and consultation with Amey and implementation is set to start in the summer.

The scheme will link to the wider cycle network at the junction of Seymour Grove and Talbot Road and with a new active travel-friendly junction where the B5217 Manchester Road and B5218 Upper Chorlton Road meet.

Trafford Council was also short listed for the prestigious title of Best Council at the second annual awards, after winning the accolade in 2024. Seymour Grove had 79% of the online vote.

“Together with members of the project team, I was delighted to accept this award on behalf of the Council.

“The scheme will greatly improve the environment in this area for people on foot or on wheels. Congratulations our teams at the Council and Amey, both on design and consultation.”

News comes as final active travel funding allocations for local transport authorities were announced last week, with Greater Manchester set to receive about £35.5m over four years.
