The countdown to Trafford’s Local Elections has started, with the Returning Officer urging people to use their vote.
This year’s elections take place on Thursday 7 May, with seats being contested in all 21 of Trafford’s wards.
Returning Officer Sara Todd said it was vital that people used their vote. She said:
“Democracy is a cornerstone of this country. It means decisions are made by residents and for residents, so please make sure your voice is heard.”
Residents wanting to have their say in this year’s elections have until midnight on Monday 20 April to register to vote.
There is an option of voting by post or a proxy vote if residents prefer not to vote in person at their polling station. Trafford Council must receive postal vote applications by 5pm on Tuesday 21 April.
When voting in person, people must bring photo ID with them or apply for a Voter Authority Certificate (VAC) if they do not have acceptable photo ID. Applications for a VAC must be received by Tuesday 28 April.
Voters’ polling stations will be printed on their poll cards, which will arrive through letterboxes in early April.
Sara Todd added:
“We have had to change the venues of some polling stations so please make sure you know where you polling station is.”
