Trafford’s parks get in shape for spring as winter maintenance nears completion
Work is continuing to make Trafford’s parks even more beautiful in time for the spring and summer.
Work is continuing to make Trafford’s parks even more beautiful in time for the spring and summer.
Trafford’s parks are being prepared for the spring season as the One Trafford Partnership, a collaboration between Amey and Trafford Council, carries out its annual hedge and shrub maintenance programme.
The programme, which began in November, runs through to late February and early March. During this period, grounds maintenance teams have been working across parks and green spaces to cut back hedges, prune shrubs, and thin out overgrown areas. This work helps maintain safe sightlines, keep paths clear and encourage strong, healthy growth in spring.
Winter is the ideal time to complete this activity as it avoids the bird nesting season, which runs from March to September. Doing the bulk of maintenance now helps protect wildlife while ensuring that parks remain tidy and accessible for visitors year round.
Residents may notice some areas looking more open or freshly cut but these works are planned to improve visibility, reduce overhanging vegetation and support the natural regeneration of plants as the weather warms. The team also reviews areas with high footfall or where overgrowth may create safety or access issues, ensuring these locations are prioritised.
Trafford Council is totally committed to its parks and has made addressing the climate crisis a corporate priority.
Cllr Stephen Adshead, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Highways, Environmental and Traded Services, said:
“Our teams work throughout the winter to make sure Trafford’s parks are in great shape for spring.
“This essential maintenance keeps our green spaces safe, welcoming and healthy for residents, families and visitors. We appreciate everyone’s patience while this work takes place.”
The One Trafford Partnership will continue monitoring sites over the coming weeks to complete the winter programme before nesting season begins. Once spring arrives, the focus will shift to mowing, planting and general upkeep to support Trafford’s parks as they enter their busiest period.
