Trees in conservation areas
Part of:
Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs)
Trees within a conservation area that are not protected by a TPO are protected by the provisions in Section 211 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
You need to give us six weeks’ notice before carrying out any works to trees within a conservation area.
This applies to trees that are more than 7.5cm in diameter when measured at 1.5m from the ground.
Dead or dangerous trees are exempt from the need to give six weeks’ notice. You must notify us as soon as possible if a tree within a conservation area has died or has become dangerous.
The penalties for unauthorised works on trees in conservation areas are the same as for trees protected by TPO.
