Applications will be decided at the monthly meeting in circumstances such as:
- at least ten people from different addresses have written to the Chief Planning Officer with views that are contrary to the officers' recommendation
- a councillor has requested that the application is 'called-in' to the Planning Committee for determination
- it is for a large-scale, strategic development and/or an application that has generated significant interest and it is considered that Planning Committee determination is required
You may be able to speak at our Planning Committee to comment on a planning application.
You must decide what you want to say to us before we make a decision about a planning application. You can only speak about a planning application if it is on the meeting agenda.
Our decision must accord with the Statutory Development Plan for Trafford unless other planning considerations, including the points that you make, justify a different decision.
Arrange to speak at the meeting
You can search online for the dates and times of upcoming Planning Committee meetings. This also includes agendas as well as minutes of past meetings.
Normally, only one spokesperson is allowed to speak to the Planning Committee (one for and one against an application).
If several people want to speak, they should agree who this spokesperson should be. To help you arrange this, we will tell you who has already said they want to speak.

At the meeting
At the meeting, when you are called to speak by the chair of the Planning Committee, you should come to the microphone. Speak once and for up to three minutes.
It is important that you prepare yourself and focus on the issues that concern you. You will not need to repeat the points raised in your letter.
Having spoken, you must leave the matter to be discussed by the Planning Committee and not join in the debate. The chair may ask you questions to clarify any points.
