New Draft Trafford Local Plan

The Trafford Local Plan will be a key planning document for the borough. It will set out how land will be used and developed in Trafford up to 2042.

The Local Plan will sit alongside Places for Everyone (PfE) and forms part of the Development Plan for Trafford. Together, these documents will guide decisions on planning applications and development in the borough.

Some decisions have already been made in PfE. These include:

  • the housing requirement for Trafford
  • the allocation of strategic development sites at New Carrington and Davenport Green (formerly Timperley Wedge)
  • the Green Belt boundary

The Trafford Local Plan will not revisit these decisions.

Progress so far

Work on the Local Plan has taken place in stages. We have already consulted on:

  • an Issues Paper (2018)
  • an earlier Draft Local Plan (2021)
  • draft policies, including vision and strategic objectives (2025)
  • draft site allocations and designations (2025)

You can find more information for each stage on the Previous Local Plan consultations page.
