Exciting times ahead in Trafford

Posted: Monday 14th October 2019

These are exciting times in Trafford with so much happening recently.  Firstly, along with our long term partners Bruntwood, we have exchanged contracts to buy Stretford Mall and the Stamford Quarter in Altrincham. This is a massive multi-million investment in line with our corporate priorities to create successful and thriving places.

This property deal will allow us to continue with the great work that has been going on in Altrincham and ensure that areas like Stretford are not left behind when it comes to revitalising the borough’s economy.

There is so much potential in Streford and we will be discussing future ideas for the area with residents and local businesses to see how best we can improve things for everyone.

Secondly, I was at the launch of a new organisation that will provide NHS services in Trafford.  Staff who currently deliver a wide range of out of hospital care services in the borough such as district nursing and specialist palliative care, are now part of Trafford Local Care Organisation (TLCO).

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) has taken over the contract to deliver these services in the borough. TLCO is a combination of staff from Trafford community health who have transferred to MFT and the Council’s Adult Social Care team. Ultimately this new arrangement should improve the care Trafford residents receive from these services.

There are many contributing factors to long-term homelessness and no easy solutions. One thing we are doing as a council is offering the owners of empty properties an interest free loan to assist with any repairs that are needed to bring the house up to an acceptable living standard.

This has proved a success in Urmston where an empty house has been transformed into four flats with a communal kitchen and bathrooms for vulnerable women who are victims of domestic violence and homelessness.  I am pleased we can help make a difference to these people’s lives.

Finally, if we are to deliver high quality services at the Council then we need to have talented and motivated staff so I was delighted to meet those colleagues who had been shortlisted for our Employee Recognition Awards which takes place next month. Congratulations to you all and keep up the good work!

Thanks Andrew
