Urmston Plan

Funded by UK Government, GMCA, Powered by levelling up logos

We recognise that our four main town centres, Altrincham, Sale, Stretford, and Urmston are crucial components to the economic, environmental, and social wellbeing of the borough. Each town centre provides a unique but complementary offer, where our residents and visitors can easily access a range of facilities and services; and businesses can grow and reach their full potential.

To help ensure Urmston thrives over the coming years, we are working to develop a Plan for Urmston town centre. The Plan will set a framework to improve the vitality and sustainability of the town centre, strengthen its performance as one of the borough’s four town centres, improve its visual and environmental appearance and improve accessibility and active travel. The Plan will also identify the development, improvement, and regeneration potential of a number of sites in the town centre.

The Plan will future proof the town as a viable, sustainable, and dynamic ‘place’ over the next 15 years and will help inform the policy framework for the town in the Trafford Local Plan. The Plan will also be important in forming the basis to be able to apply for funding when it becomes available.

We have appointed AEW Architects, an experienced Manchester based practice to deliver the Urmston Plan, following a rigorous tender process.

This project has been made possible thanks to Greater Manchester Combined Authority securing funding, on behalf of the city-region, to deliver UKSPF projects, which forms part of the Government’s wider Levelling Up agenda.

To inform the development of the Urmston Plan a drop in event is being held.
