This role will provide an excellent opportunity for you to develop IT, project management & HR skills. HR departments are central to the operation of organisations and are a vital and interesting area to work in.

When you join our HR systems team you will learn how a HR department works and some of the legislation that HR professionals must know. You will be responsible for a key IT system so will learn how IT systems are run and managed and what project management takes place alongside this.

The successful applicant will be joining at an exciting time as the DfE HR Zendesk system is scheduled to undergo extensive upgrades with the latest technology and is aiming to be the very best solution offered within the Civil Service.

You will be joining a small team delivering an evolving HR technology platform used by over 8000 DfE managers and staff. Working within our HR systems team you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the departments HR Zendesk instance alongside extending system knowledge & information management capabilities.

Job description:

As a HR Zendesk Systems Administrator your responsibilities will include:

  • Working closely with the HR Zendesk Product Owner and colleagues across the DfE to ensure the system is delivering what our users need.
  • Maintaining and updating workflows within the HR Zendesk system.
  • Working with HR stakeholders to examine and evaluate their HR Zendesk requirements and identifying solution options and recommendations.
  • Supporting, analysing, troubleshooting and resolving Zendesk issues.
  • Implementing changes within the system using change management processes.
  • Maintaining the security for the system including all statutory and legal requirements.
  • Assisting in the creation of bespoke data analysis and reporting tools.
  • Finding new ways to develop and improve the system and ways to improve your own skill set utilising the extensive L&D offer the DfE provides.

Person specification:

Essential Criteria.

We are looking for someone to be/have:

  • Systematic in their thinking with an ability to see the big picture and wider implications of decisions. You can analyse and understand a problem, think of different solutions and decide which is the most appropriate.
  • Process and detail driven you ensure everything is accurate and error free whilst operating within system standards.
  • A good communicator both verbally and in writing with an ability to simplify system complexities and adapt communication based on the audience.
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills you can balance planned and reactive work to assure both personal and team objectives are delivered.
  • Self-motivated to learn new information to develop yourself and work processes.

 Desirable Criteria.

  • Experience of system administration.
  • Experience of working in a HR environment.

Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie break situation to make an informed decision.

Applicants currently holding a permanent post in the Civil Service should note that, if successful, their salary on appointment would be determined by the Department’s transfer / promotion policies.

Most DfE employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending at least 60% of their time in an office or work setting. Changes to these working arrangements are available in exceptional circumstances, but must be agreed with the line manager and in line with the requirements of the role. 

Travel to your primary office location will not be paid for by DfE, but costs for travel to an office which is not your main location will be covered.
