Timperley lights up Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Timperley as the town’s celebrations get underway in grand style today (1 December).

Soak up the special atmosphere between 4 and 6pm outside Sayers Bakery, on Stockport Road, when the village will be lit up for the start of the festive season.

There’ll be the chance to listen to music from local children’s choirs, plus Trafford's very own Frank Sinatra, Wayne Devlin, who will be joining the celebrations, bringing a real 'celebrity' twist to the occasion.

The festivities also include community carol singing, a visit from Santa, and tunes from Trafford Sound radio, as well as the return of last year’s popular Festive Trail Competition.

The competition opens at 4pm on 1 December, and closes on 21 December. During this time shops across the town will have special Christmas baubles, each with a different letter, in their windows. To take part, unscramble the letters to create a Christmas lyric. For full details download the competition form.

The Christmas light-up, is the result of a new three-year plan by residents and councillors to improve festive lighting in the village. Money has been raised by Trafford Locality Partnership grants, local businesses and retailers, to support the project.

Executive Member for Communities and Partnerships, Cllr Laura Evans, said: “A huge thank you to everyone who is taking part in this year’s event. We want as many people as possible to enjoy the lights, take part in the Treasure Trail and sample the fantastic food that’s available.”
