Free after 3 parking returns to aid Christmas shoppers

Free after three

Shoppers and visitors to Trafford will receive an early Christmas present this weekend when the Council's 'Free after 3' parking scheme launches across the borough.

Starting on Saturday 16 November, parking will be free after 3pm in all council-owned car parks and on-street locations between Monday to Saturday. Parking is already free all day on Sundays, except for match-day parking within the Village in Trafford Park.

The scheme, which will run right through until 11 January 2020, aims to help shoppers and visitors to the area save on their costs, while providing a boost to local businesses by encouraging more people to Trafford's town centres and villages.

The start of the initiative coincides with the big Christmas lights switch-on in Altrincham, which takes place in the Stamford Quarter.

A spokesperson for Trafford Council said:

Free after 3 is a great scheme to help boost our town centres and enable residents to shop local.

We have a great mix of shops in our town centres and it’s brilliant that we can support them in this way, especially in the run-un to Christmas, and afterwards during the January sales.

The Free after 3 scheme is just one of the many ways we are helping our town centres, with our recent purchases of Stretford Mall and the Stamford Quarter showing our determination to create successful and thriving places in Trafford."

Green stickers will be visible at on-street pay and display machines across the borough and in council-owned car parks where the scheme is in operation.
