A worker with a learning disability has celebrated 10 years’ continuous service with a fast food chain.

Martin Steel, 54, has been working at McDonald’s in Trafford Retail Park, every Tuesday and received a 10-year-service award by the store manager. He also picked up a £200 voucher.

Martin, who has been supported by Trafford Council’s Adult Supported Living Service for many years, lives in a house in Urmston which he shares with three other men. He is supported by a caring team of support workers who assist Martin to achieve his aspirations

He said:

I am very proud to be able to go to work and help others . It is a vital part of my life. I also volunteer at Shelter every Thursday and this is also something I am proud of.”

During Learning Disability at Work Week, Diane Eaton, Head of Adult Services at Trafford Council, was delighted to promote Martin's award. She said:

What a great achievement. There shouldn’t be any barriers to people with learning disabilities leading fulfilling lives and I’m so pleased that our supported living service enables Martin to achieve the goals he has set.”

Mark Nuttall, franchisee at Trafford McDonald’s, said:

Martin is a really important part of our team and we were delighted to be able to present him with a certificate in recognition of his achievement.

He’s a great person to work with because he cares so much about doing his work well. We love having him with us and we really hope he stays for at least another 10 years!”
