One year to go until the Women's Euros come to Trafford!

WEURO one year to go

The Women’s Euros are exactly one year away and young footballers in Sale are already excited about seeing their heroes in action.

The prestigious tournament kicks off at Old Trafford on 6 July 2022, and members of Sale United Girls FC are thrilled that there will be a game right on their doorstep.

Sales United Girls U14 player Alice said:

“I’ve met some of the women’s players and to see them play for England is really exciting.”

Sale United Girls coach Michaela Vitalis believes the Women’s Euros will be an amazing experience, especially with the opening game being at Old Trafford.
She said:

“To have that here in the UK and for those girl to have the experience to go to it and watch those women playing – it’s just a massive experience and one they will never forget.”

Trafford Council leader Cllr Andrew Western lauded the Women’s Euros being at Old Trafford as another triumph for the borough.
He said:

“Having world class sport at our world class venues is just fantastic. Being able to see our sporting heroes in action is an amazing and unforgettable experience. But having the Women’s Euros here is more than that. It can create and inspire a legacy in the game and get more girls active and taking part in football. Who knows, a 10-year-old girl that watches the Euros next year could be inspired and become the next football star in the future!”

Fans throughout England have been enjoying the success of the men’s team and the women’s team are hoping for similar success.

Sale United Girls player Lola said:

“Women’s football has become a big sport now. I support Manchester United so I love to see them at Old Trafford.
It’s good supporting your Euro team instead of just your local football club. England have done really well this season and hopefully the women’s team can do the same.”
