Silhouettes of 'Tommy' soldiers erected ahead of Remembrance Sunday

Poignant silhouettes of ‘Tommy’ soldiers have been erected in Urmston ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

The two silhouettes stand proud at the War Memorial in Davyhulme Circle for all to see ahead of Sunday’s Remembrance services.

The figures were placed there by David Mackereth from Trafford Events Ltd, an Urmston based not-for-profit company, using materials donated by Cool Freeze (UK) Ltd, who are located in Trafford Park.

David, who came up with the idea for the tributes in partnership with Trafford Council, said: “Family members of mine have served in the forces and Remembrance Sunday means a lot to me. When the template became available I thought it would be a good idea to make the silhouettes for everyone to see. I think they look very effective.”

Cllr Judith Lloyd, Trafford Council’s Armed Champion Forces Lead, said:

“Thank you very much to David for providing the ‘Tommy’ silhouettes at the War Memorial. I think they look beautiful and are a fabulous tribute to all those who bravely gave their lives for our freedom. Remembrance Sunday is always a very emotional event and this year will be no exception.”
