Plan to make Trafford a better place to live and work

An ambitious roadmap to help drive Trafford’s recovery from the impact of the pandemic and improve life for people and businesses in the borough has been unveiled.

Council leaders have identified improving the health of the population, supporting people out of poverty and tackling the climate crisis as key aims for the borough over the coming years.

These priorities are outlined in its updated corporate plan – ‘Our Trafford, Our Future 2021-24 - Better Health, Better Jobs, Greener Future’.

Council chiefs have also put forward a new vision for the borough – a place where all residents, communities and businesses prosper – as they set about dealing with the ongoing issues caused by the pandemic.

The document details how the council will work with residents, businesses and other partners to deliver change to Trafford in line with these commitments, and at the same time continue to deliver high quality services.

The plan agreed by councillors, is a refresh on the previous one drafted in 2018. It reflects the ambition of the Council to improve life for everyone in the borough.

The first priority is reducing health inequalities. This will involve working with people, communities and partners, particularly in deprived areas, to improve the physical and mental health of all residents.

Supporting people out of poverty is the second priority, and will see efforts to tackle its root causes to prevent people from falling into poverty, and help move people out of it.

The third priority centres around addressing the climate crisis and will involve reducing the Council’s carbon footprint and tackling the impact of climate change.

Council Leader Andrew Western said:

“Our Trafford, Our Future reflects the changing world we are working in. The pandemic has had a devastating impact on so many people in Trafford and now is the right time to show how we are going to rebuild the borough to make it an even better place to live and work.

“This is also very much a live document and outlines the real outcomes we aim to achieve for the communities in the borough. However, this is not just about the council delivering better lives for our residents, we can’t do this alone and we will need to work together with our partners. The pandemic has shown the importance of partnership. We need the support of our partners to do this and they have been fantastic during the pandemic and will continue to be a major role in helping deliver our objectives.”
