Christmas holiday help available for Trafford families

Eligible young people across Trafford are being offered places in a fabulous free holiday clubs programme over the school Christmas holidays.

The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme will provide healthy food and fun activities to children and young people, with free places available for those on free school meals.

HAF, which is funded by the Government, was also delivered by Trafford Council across the summer holidays and helped provide more than 2,000 young people with free meals and fun activities.

Both primary and secondary school aged children will be able to access the sessions throughout the holidays, including provisions available for children with additional needs, at no cost to parents.

Trafford Council will work with a number of providers to help put on the sessions. They will include a variety of fun activities, including sports, music, arts and other exciting opportunities to learn and develop skills like meeting new friends, alongside a nutritious meal each day.

Cllr Jo Harding, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Strategic Partnerships, said: “The HAF programme will provide a huge boost to thousands of young people across our borough during this cost of living crisis. We are working with local schools, voluntary and community organisations, and childcare providers to provide the programme with free places funded by the Department for Education.

“With many families struggling at the moment, this scheme is very important to Trafford Council and we hope as many eligible youngsters as possible sign up to the scheme for a healthy and fun Christmas break.”
