Council staff took to streets to find and help homeless

Staff from Trafford Council’s housing teams took to the streets through the night looking for homeless people and rough sleepers.

The Housing Options Service Trafford (HOST) and Housing Strategy and Growth teams patrolled the borough looking for rough sleepers to help and advise.

The teams visited hotspots in the borough including parks, car parks, shopping malls and tram stops. They discovered two people – one sleeping in a tent along the canal bank in Sale and another sleeping in a van in Stretford. Support is in place for both men.

The teams regularly organise similar street walks to find rough sleepers to give them help and advice on securing emergency accommodation. The work supports the Council’s corporate priorities include supporting people out of poverty and reducing health inequalities.

If you would like any help with housing problems or are homeless, please contact HOST on 0161 912 2230 or go to HOST@trafford.gov.uk

Cllr James Wright, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Housing and Regeneration, said: “Thank you so much to the Trafford Council staff and volunteers who are carrying out this extremely important work with the homeless. You should be proud of yourselves for what you are doing.

“Trafford Council is totally committed to helping the homeless and building quality and affordable social housing throughout the borough. If you find yourself homeless or in need of help with housing, please do not suffer in silence and contact our HOST team as soon as possible.”
