Talbot Road travel consultation shows high level of public support for proposals

One Trafford Partnership’s consultation on proposals to transform pedestrian and cyclist options on Talbot Road, from Chester Road to Boyer Street, has now officially finished.

Considerable interest had been shown in the proposals and an overwhelming number of those providing responses were supportive.

Between 22 May to 18 June, 176 stakeholders responded to proposals to improvements walking and cycling facilities along Talbot Road, from Chester Road to Boyer Street. Over 69% supported the proposals to improve pedestrian and cyclist provisions on this area.

There was also a positive response to safety element as well. Over half of all respondents felt that separate cycle tracks, shorter crossing points and safer junctions would be beneficial and promote safer and more sustainable travel. These aims align with One Trafford Partnership’s vision to reduce emissions and provide a much-improved experience for pedestrians and cyclists.

All the feedback received so far will be reviewed and where appropriate and beneficial changes will be made to improve the layout, use and safety in line with the community’s wishes.

Following the consultation process, the comments received will be reviewed by the design team and work is expected to start mid 2024.

Councillor Aidan Williams, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Climate Change, said: “We’ve been happy to see so many local stakeholders take an interest in these exciting proposals and back the council’s plans to improve travel options on Talbot Road and some surrounding roads. We’re thankful they took the time to respond and contribute to the process of progressing walking and cycling provision in Trafford. These proposals will play a significant role in helping to improve travel  options whilst helping people stay healthier and cutting down on car use.

“Following a process of review, these proposals will now be progressed with all our partners.”
