Residents urged to keep Old Trafford tidy

Community groups in Old Trafford are working together with the One Trafford Partnership – Trafford Council and Amey – to urge residents and visitors to keep the area tidy.

One Trafford’s street cleansing teams will be carrying out a tidy up across the area targeting alleyway ‘grot spots’. But they won’t be alone as Trafford Council’s Environmental Improvement team and community members will be joining them for litter picks and resident engagement to help spread awareness.

From litter all the way through to large waste items like furniture, mattresses and broken toys, teams will be removing items to provide residents with a clean start. While in the area, the team will be speaking directly to as many residents as possible to support them with their waste queries.

St. John’s Centre will be holding the Big OT Litter Pick on Sunday 16th July from 12pm until 4pm.

Councillor Stephen Adshead, Executive Member for Highways, Environmental & Traded Services, said, “Now, more than ever, our environment has never been more important. Not only is it unsightly to dump unwanted waste like furniture, toys and mattresses, it’s also impacting our local environment and costing us more and more to clear it up. Fly tipping waste is illegal and should be reported to us on 0161 912 4152 if you see someone dumping rubbish.”

“To help everyone in Old Trafford, we’re working with the local community, and groups like St. John’s Centre, to ensure everyone is getting the support they need to dispose of some of those awkward bulky items. There are a few services that residents can use including the Household Waste Recycling Centre, ordering a bulky waste collection via the website, or even donating household items and toys to charities.”
