Free home energy improvements for Trafford residents

Trafford Council is working with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to give residents in the biggest need warmer homes and lower energy bills.

Through the government-led scheme, which is called Energy Company Obligation wave 4 (ECO4), vulnerable home-owners and renters who are on a low-income are able to get free help with insulation, air source heat pumps, and solar photovoltaic (PV). All of these measures are proven to reduce both energy costs and carbon emissions.

A qualified installer called Improveasy has been assigned to Trafford to deliver the energy efficiency improvements and is being funded by the Energy Company Obligation Local Authority Flexible Eligibility Scheme (ECO4 LA Flex).

Under ECO4 LA Flex, the Council can refer owner-occupiers and private tenants who are living in fuel poverty or on a low income and vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home.

Cllr Aidan Williams, Trafford Council Executive Member for Climate Change, said: “The ECO4 addresses two of the Council’s corporate priorities that we are passionate about tackling in Trafford – poverty and our climate crisis.

“I would urge all residents to check whether they are eligible for this scheme. It’s free and could make a real difference to your future household bills, so there really is nothing to lose.

“If you’re not eligible for free help, and are able to pay for improvements to make your home more energy efficient, the Your Home Better scheme is also available to help you improve your home.”
