Public urged to have their say on new proposals for A56 Chester Road in Trafford

One Trafford Partnership is excited to announce it is sharing new proposals for the A56 Chester Road with the local community.

These proposals include the removal of temporary cones, replacing them with new cycle lanes separated from the road with dividers, building crossing points for pedestrians and cyclists along with enhanced road markings. These improvements aim to make cycling and walking along this important route easier and safer for all.  Trafford Council is working with Amey under the One Trafford partnership.

As part of the partnership’s commitment to involving the community in these evolving plans, the community is asked to provide its feedback on these proposed improvements.

To allow everyone to have their say, an online consultation will continue to 10 September giving anyone interested in the proposals seven weeks to find out more and give feedback. The online consultation and more information can be found at:

A public drop-in event is also being held at Stretford Public Hall, Chester Rd, Stretford, Manchester M32 0LG. On Thursday 17 August between 9.30am and 7.00pm. Visitors can find out more about the latest proposals, meet project team members and offer feedback.

This work forms part of Trafford Council’s priorities to encourage active travel and help promote cycling and walking as safe alternatives to driving in the area. Funding comes from the Mayor’s Challenge Fund (MCF) which aims to improve the cycling and walking infrastructure across Greater Manchester.

Councillor Aidan Williams, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Climate Change, said:

“We are excited to be sharing our latest plans for the A56 Chester Road with all our stakeholders. This consultation is the community’s chance to make sure these proposals meet their needs.

"I would urge anyone with an interest to see us in person at the drop in event or visit the website to find out more and have their say."

Les Dagnall, Technical Director, Amey Consulting, was also enthusiastic about the consultation. He said:

“We hope the community will be excited to find out how we’ve taken previous comments on board and worked hard to prepare a scheme which will help transform travel in Trafford."
