Council continuing to win the war against homelessness

A new report has revealed how Trafford Council is continuing to win the war against homelessness in the borough.

The Council’s Homelessness Strategy Annual Statement 2023 tells how the Council is helping hundreds of families from becoming homeless and has taken rough sleepers off the streets.

Cllr James Wright, Executive Member for Housing and Advice, spoke of his pride over the success of the five-year-strategy which was launched in 2019.

The major achievements of the Council’s Homelessness Strategy so far this year include:

  • 347 households prevented from becoming homeless in 2022/23
  • Securing permanent accommodation for four long-term rough sleepers in 2022/23
  • 82,000 customer contacts with residents in 2022/23
  •  HOST assisted 228 homeless households to secure settled accommodation in 22/23.

The strategy sets out the Council’s priorities for Trafford over the next five years. They are: To prevent homelessness in Trafford; increase the supply of social housing and good quality temporary accommodation, work towards ending rough sleeping; improve access to employment, education and training for homeless people in Trafford and to improve their health and wellbeing.

Cllr Wright said: “This Council is totally committed to preventing people in our borough from becoming homeless. We are continuing to find homes for rough sleepers and this year our teams have intervened to prevent 347 households from becoming homeless. I am proud of our achievements to date and can promise that we will continue to work hard to eradicate homelessness in our borough.”
