Council Leader's delight at firm's investment in Trafford

The Leader of Trafford Council has welcomed news that a world-famous tea company is continuing to invest heavily in its HQ in the borough.

Cllr Tom Ross spoke out after LIPTON Teas and Infusions, owners of the PG Tips brand, revealed it had invested £40m on new machinery and training at its base on Trafford Park Road in Stretford.

The investment was made as part of a two-year development programme on a new product – a square tea bag which the company claims is its ‘best ever blend.’

And Cllr Ross is delighted that the company has made the commitment to invest in the plant and therefore in supporting Trafford’s local economy.

Cllr Ross said: “LIPTON Teas and Infusions has invested millions of pounds into its Trafford Park plant and into training and that is obviously great news for the borough. Trafford is a fabulous place to invest and to open business and we are pleased that the company is on board.

“Trafford is home to a variety of world-famous names in business and sport and PG Tips is certainly a brand known throughout the world. Trafford Council is committed to attracting business to the area and we are always supportive of investment into the borough. We have a thriving business community in Trafford with fabulous transport connectivity and a strong and skilled workforce and we are one of the most economically competitive areas in the whole of Greater Manchester.”

PG Tips General Manager, UK and Ireland, Liam McNamara, said: “The new PG Tips is the result of a major investment programme by LIPTON Teas and Infusions, its owner and the world’s leading tea company.

“It is part of its commitment to elevate the black tea drinking experience while driving more shared value for all, from plant to cup.  Our expert tea-blenders have spent two years developing a new and better blend that delivers high quality taste to tea lovers.

"As part of the programme, the company has spent £40million on new machinery and training to make the new blend at its Trafford Park site in Greater Manchester, which is celebrating its centenary this year, and we are immensely proud that PG Tips will continue to be made in Trafford.”
