Council signs up to Green Libraries Manifesto

Trafford Council has opened a new chapter within its library service by signing up to a national green manifesto.

The Green Libraries Manifesto was launched by the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) to provide a greater environmental focus.

The manifesto has seven pledges which are aligned with Trafford’s Corporate Plan and green ambitions – Bring environmental sustainability to the heart of decision-making; Innovate and evolve; work with our communities; use our voice for more impact; work in partnership; grow and share our knowledge and support young people.

The Council, which will use the manifesto as a guide to follow within its libraries teams, has already been contributing to the pledges by introducing biodegradable library cards, working alongside partners, sharing ideas and being sustainable.

Cllr Cath Hynes, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Leisure, Arts, Culture and Heritage, said: “Trafford Council is totally committed to helping the environment and has made addressing our climate crisis a major corporate priority. We are delighted to be signing up to the Green Libraries Manifesto as it fits in perfectly with our corporate plan priorities and green ambitions.”
