Trafford Council delivering on corporate priorities

A new report has revealed how Trafford Council is continuing to deliver on its promises and corporate priorities.

The Leader of the Council, Cllr Tom Ross, told Monday night’s (Dec 11) meeting of the Executive that the Council was meeting many of its priorities set out in the Corporate Plan 2023/24.

The Council’s priorities are: Reducing health inequalities by working with partners to improve the physical and mental health of our residents; supporting people out of poverty by tackling the root cause of poverty and addressing our climate crisis by reducing our carbon footprint and tackling the impact of climate change.

The existing Corporate Plan, ‘Our Trafford, Our Future’, runs until 2024 and describes Trafford Council’s strategic vision, outcomes and priorities for the borough. The report has been drawn up to provide a summary of performance against the aims of the Plan.

Each specific strategic priority has been given a number of key performance indicators (KPIs) and the report summarizes the indicators and information regarding current performance. There have been many successes in each of the three priority areas, but notable achievements include:

Reducing health inequalities: 

• The creation of a system-wide approach to stop smoking including the launch of Trafford’s Tobacco Alliance which brings together partners from across the system including public health, enforcement, health, emergency services etc, to address smoking related harm in the borough. 

• Increase in the number of adults who walk and cycle five times a week. Trafford saw an increase of 5.9 percentage points in adults participating between 2020-21 and 2021- 22. Participation in Trafford is now 35.9%, higher than both the average of similar authorities, 32.3% and the national average 34.2%. 

Supporting people out of poverty: 

• Trafford Council voted to adopt the four recommendations of the Poverty Truth Commission's report and to support the all the updated actions in the refreshed 2023-2025 Trafford Poverty Strategy. 

• We have hit our targets regarding the numbers of people we have prevented from becoming homeless across the borough. We have also improved the numbers of people who have been rehoused.  

Addressing our climate crisis 

• We have increased the total tonnage of household waste by 2.7% from the same time last year and the amount of waste intended for recycling. 

• The number of electric charging points per 100,000 population has also increased.

We are actively reducing health inequalities, supporting people out of poverty and taking care of our environment. We will continue to meet our corporate priorities going forward.”
